  1. The Mount Carmel Helps, Inc. Disaster Relief Team is hosting a Mobile Food Drive Saturday, April 11, 1-4 p.m. The drive will take place in the Mittie’s Kitchen parking lot (2586 Onslow Drive, Jacksonville). The relief team is asking participants to remain in their vehicle as they place food boxes in their trunks. For more information, call (910) 554-2934.
  2. Easter Sunday Service at Abundant Life International Baptist Church – In current times of uncertainty and fear, this church is taking a creative approach to its church service. The church plans a drive-in service in its parking lot 10-11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 12, weather permitting. Visitors can practice preventative social distancing by remaining in their cars for the service. Unfortunately, the Eastern Carolina area may be in the path of severe weather this weekend, according to the National Weather Service, so contact the church at (910) 346-2356 for updates regarding the service.
  3. The Salvation Army is announcing that it has several openings to participate in a special program for seniors living in Onslow County who are 60 years or older – the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. The United States Department of Agriculture sponsors this program. It provides a monthly food package with the intention of supplementing low-income seniors’ nutritional needs. The boxes contain fruits and vegetables as well as dairy, protein and whole grain foods. Participation is reserved for seniors whose incomes do not exceed 2020 income rules. So, if you think you may qualify for this program, call the Salvation Army at (910) 346-8800 for more information.

Heartwarming moments in Onslow County

Onslow County residents recently expressed their appreciation for their first responders who are at the front lines of risk during the Coronavirus pandemic. They gathered more than 20 boxes of snacks and drinks, including “Thank You” notes, and delivered them to their heroes.
