31 Jul Walk to End Alzheimer’s recruiting Jacksonville NC residents
Organizers of “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” are busily recruiting participants throughout the United States, and Jacksonville, NC is no exception.
According the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” website, this disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. In fact, one in three seniors dies as a result of Alzheimer’s disease or other kinds of dementia. The disease does not just affect those who are stricken with it, it has a profound effect on family caregivers as well as other family members.
The website also reported that in 2018, approximately 16 million Americans providing care to loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease put in an estimated 18.5 billion hours of care with no reimbursement. The market value of caring for stricken loved ones is calculated at more than $234 billion.
The “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” takes place in Jacksonville NC October 19, 2019, starting at Riverwalk Park (421 Court Street). Walker registration begins at 9 a.m. Then there will be a brief ceremony at 10 a.m. before the walk begins at 10:30 a.m.
All funds participants raise from the walk are dedicated to the of the Alzheimer’s Association’s work. It is stated here.

Some basic information includes the following:
- When you register online, the Alzheimer’s Association asks that you make a personal donation and commit to raise additional funds to advance the goals of the organization.
- Anyone who raises at least $100 prior to the day of the walk will receive a T-shirt when checking in the day of the event.
